I actually wrote again. I was getting really discouraged so I just figured I'd do what I can and forget about those last... uh... 5 days? My handy NaNoWriMo spreadsheet says I need to write about 2100 words a day now to make 50k by the end of the month. Guess we'll see. I'll just be happy with myself if I make a significant effort.

Some disjointed writing

I've been having a hard time the last few days. I really need to make writing a priority on Sundays. Last week I just tried to fit it in wherever and got nowhere. Same with Monday. Tuesday, I was out sick from work so I figured it'd be a great time to get things done but the siren song of the internet called to me. Today my wrists are complaining about being on the laptop while my lovely husband uses the desktop to play WoW. I'm just going to count today and yesterdays' writings together for ease and try to get back on track tomorrow. It doesn't help that I've been busy enough at work that I can't write there. :P

So, as the title says, there's a prologue of sorts here and continuing with where I was going before. Suppose it's better than nothing.

Part Two, where Laine gets dissapointed

Handy aforementioned wordcount tool puts me at 1749. A different word count tool says I'm at 1685. Word says 1644. I'm taking the middle one so I don't feel like I'm cheating.

First ~1800 words

Sidenote: Wtf? I used the wordcount in Word and got less than 1700. This handy wordcount tool says I'm at 1862. Yes please!

Also as an aside: Piggy, this is my MayNoWriMo stuff. I'd definitely like it if you read it and gave feedback but it's still in it's raw form so it might be confusing or disjointed or whatever. I'm really doing my best not to edit as I go, otherwise I'll get caught up in doing that.

Test post

Fiddling with the new dreamwidth account (littlealbatross.dreamwidth.org). The crossposting feature is pretty cool, and apparently they're working on making it so you can also read your lj friends' list over here as well. Next up- importing my lj here.

I'm not completely changing over, but I think I'll use this as my writing journal just to get a feel for how it works.

Gary Forever page

Sarah and I have been talking about this, and it seems like it boils down to these three options. I will try to be as concise as possible but I'm sort of a wordy gal sometimes. Obviously, these lists are not inclusive. It's just what I've come across while trying to sort this out. Also, if you have other suggestions, please give them!

1. Group Page (Gary Forever)

PROS

We're already here
"Group" makes it clear what this is. It's not Gary; it's a group in his honor.
You can post under your own name (this issue is primarily for Amanda)

CONS

We can't tag pictures of Gary
We can't create albums of pictures
Might create confusion/be harder to find than a fan/individual page

2. Gary Fan Page (Currently titled "Gary W. Sonntag Memorial Page" and located here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Gary-W-Sonntag-Memorial-Page/198706406815672

PROS:

Makes it clearer (though not crystal clear) that this is not a page for an individual. Rather, it is a "fan" page.
People can "like" the page, making it easier for other people to find.

CONS:

Cannot tag pictures of Gary in the Fan page
Administrator (me currently; could be someone else) cannot post as themselves on the wall. This leads to jarring posts by the memorial page on your friends page.
It's a bit weird to "Like" a memorial page.

3. Gary Individual Page run as a Fan Page (would be titled "Gary W. Sonntag Memorial Page" or similar; need to discuss this. Currently here: Currently here: www.facebook.com/home.php#!/profile.php

PROS:

Tagging of Pictures/Album creation (good for sharing and for letting people know it is there); less work for everyone to see pictures.
Once it is set up "Gary" will never have to post. Each person could post as themselves on the wall of the page.
No "liking" a memorial page.

CONS:

May be confused for an actual individual page despite saying it is a memorial page
Someone (Currently me; could be someone else) has to add people as friends for people to post to the wall. Could be jarring for people to either request/accept friendship, but since it would be named something like "Memorial Page" as his name hopefully this would be alleviated.

I've made a poll so people can quickly vote on what they'd like of these options. If you want to suggest something else, please do so in the comments on the Gary Forever group on FB so all comments will all be in the same place.
